PNSA holds its first Virtual PNSA Celebration

The Northwestern University Chapter of the Philippine Nursing Student Association conducted its first virtual PNSA Celebration on December 9-10, 2021.

With the theme: “Nurses: A Voice to Lead – A Vision for Future Health Care,” the 2-day virtual program was spearheaded by Jeronimo B. Sales Jr., the president of the organization. Guided by the organization’s adviser, Ms. Kathrina Mae Reyes, they prepared different activities and programs for the students in the department.

According to Sales, it took them months to prepare—starting from the formulation of the guidelines for contests, to conceptualizing the day-to-day activities, to encouraging the students to join, to editing videos and posters, and many more. But they managed it one step at a time to come up with the best outcome possible.

A thanksgiving service was given, simultaneously broadcast on their Facebook page and Zoom, followed by the opening program. Prof. Charliemane A. Bullalayao, Head of the Department of Nursing, officially announced the start of the virtual event. A variety of online competitions wherein students were able to showcase their talents happened concurrently such as: Digital Poster Making, Nightingale Got Talent, Spoken Poetry, Tiktok Competition, and Nightingale Top Model. The Call of Duty Mobile game—a crowd favorite—was also included. Numerous nursing students participated in these contests.

On the afternoon of December 9, an Online Webinar was conducted, where the keynote speaker was Dr. Michael John Flores, Senior Executive: Quality Assurance Director of Top Rank Review Academy & Managing Directors of Quick Processing Solution Inc. The virtual Student Nurses Research Colloquium became the main event on the second day of the program wherein all Level 4 students presented their accomplished research studies. The virtual program ended with the Awarding and Closing Program which premiered on the official page of the organization.

“I have realized that despite the barriers and hindrances that this online learning brought to us, the PNSA can still pull off a celebration even when it is done virtually. We were able to provide fun and learning to my fellow nursing students as well as let them unleash their fullest potentials. Since it was done virtually, we encountered a lot of challenges; however, we surpassed all of those because we uplifted the spirit of teamwork within the organization,” PNSA president Sales said.
