Northwestern University’s Crisis Management and Resilience Advocacy
At Northwestern University (NWU), resilience is more than the ability to withstand disasters. It is a continuing institutional commitment to protecting lives, safeguarding the academic community, sustaining essential operations, and strengthening the capacity of communities to prepare for, respond to, and recover from crises.
As a non-sectarian higher education institution in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte, Northwestern University recognizes that its responsibility extends beyond the delivery of quality education. The University actively contributes to addressing societal challenges through advocacies that promote environmental sustainability, disaster risk reduction, community development, and public safety.
Central to this commitment is RIDAM, the University’s institutional advocacy for disaster education, awareness, preparedness, and resilience
Derived from the Ilokano word ridam, which conveys a call to remain alert and vigilant, the advocacy reflects the importance of preparedness, collective responsibility, and timely action in protecting lives and communities.
With the introduction of RIDAM 2.0, Northwestern University advances this advocacy into a more comprehensive and institutionalized approach to crisis management. Building upon its established disaster preparedness programs, RIDAM 2.0 integrates crisis prevention, preparedness, coordinated emergency response, academic and administrative continuity, psychosocial support, and post-crisis recovery into a unified institutional framework.
This strengthened approach recognizes that contemporary crises extend beyond natural disasters. Public health emergencies, cybersecurity threats, security incidents, infrastructure
Education and Awareness

RIDAM 2.0: Advancing Crisis Management and Resilience
