NWU, DLSU-D forge three-year academic partnership

Northwestern University (NWU) and De La Salle University-Dasmariñas (DLSU-D) strengthen academic cooperation through a three-year Memorandum of Understanding that opens opportunities in education, research, extension, community engagement, and sustainability.

NWU President Atty. Ferdinand S. Nicolas and DLSU-D President Br. Iñigo R. Riola FSC, EdD sign the agreement during a virtual ceremony on September 15, establishing a framework for collaboration across all academic disciplines.

Under the agreement, NWU and DLSU-D may undertake academic benchmarking, faculty and student mobility programs, joint seminars and guest lectures, institutional visits, fieldwork, and community-based initiatives.

The partnership also opens opportunities for collaborative research, co-authored publications, funded projects, and the shared use of facilities. The universities may establish research clusters in priority areas such as sustainability, governance, health, technology, and cultural heritage.

“As an alumnus of La Salle Green Hills, I am happy to be creating this linkage with De La Salle University-Dasmariñas, knowing that both of our institutions can learn many things from one another,” Nicolas said.

He expressed particular interest in learning from DLSU-D’s sustainability practices and applying relevant approaches at NWU.

“One thing I am especially interested in is the recognition of DLSU-D as the most sustainable university in the Philippines by UI GreenMetric. This is something we want to emulate in line with our advocacy for environmental protection and conservation,” Nicolas added.

The MOU also identifies possible cooperation in digital transformation, renewable energy, governance, and cultural heritage. It allows the institutions to explore interdisciplinary programs and dual-degree opportunities, subject to regulatory approval.

Joint extension and outreach projects may also be developed to support communities in Ilocos Norte and Cavite, particularly in education, sustainability, health, and social responsibility.

Specific activities under the partnership will be formalized through separate agreements, project proposals, or addenda. Both universities will designate focal offices or coordinators to oversee implementation and monitoring.

he MOU will remain effective for three years and may be renewed upon mutual agreement.
