Northwestern University strengthens its support for campus journalism as it welcomes young journalists and school paper advisers for the 2026 Laoag City Division Schools Press Conference (DSPC), opening its campus and specialized facilities to learning, collaboration, and responsible storytelling.
Organized by the Schools Division Office of Laoag City, the conference held activities on October 2, 3, and 10, 2026. NWU served as venue partner under a Memorandum of Understanding formalizing the institutions’ collaboration in the preparation and conduct of the event.
Writing, broadcasting, photojournalism, and other campus journalism activities took place across different University facilities. NWU’s range of learning and production spaces accommodated the requirements of these activities, providing settings where students could demonstrate their skills and learn alongside fellow campus journalists.
For the group broadcasting competitions, NWU facilitated radio production at U-Radio 107.5 and television production at the Green Room. These dedicated spaces supported practical work in scripting, reporting, presentation, and production, allowing participants to bring their stories to life through coordinated teamwork.
The University grounds also became a setting for visual storytelling. Photojournalism participants went on a campus photo walk, observing their surroundings and documenting stories through images. The activity gave students opportunities to practice finding meaningful subjects and presenting them with clear captions and accurate context.
Throughout the conference, the campus brought together students, school paper advisers, educators, and media practitioners. The gathering created opportunities for young communicators to exchange ideas, apply their learning, and deepen their understanding of the responsibilities that accompany journalism.
NWU’s hosting of the DSPC illustrates how University resources can support the wider educational community. By sharing its campus facilities and production spaces, the University helped provide an environment for developing student talent while strengthening its collaboration with the basic education sector.
Through its partnership with DepEd Laoag City, Northwestern University affirms its support for campus journalism and for learning opportunities that help young people think critically, communicate clearly, and tell stories with integrity.
