Faculty and students from Northwestern University participate in the inaugural webinar of Passivhaus Philippines focused on sustainable construction
Northwestern University’s College of Engineering, Architecture, and Technology (CEAT) invited to participate in the formation of Passivhaus Philippines, a national non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the Passive House Standard for low-carbon and energy-efficient design.
The virtual event, conducted on August 23, 2025, featured renowned specialists who discussed how to apply Passive House concepts to tropical settings. The webinar convened architects, engineers, contractors, policymakers, and academics to showcase the Philippines’ growing push for resilient and climate-aware architecture.

Dr. Jennifer D. Del Amen, Dean of CEAT, was recognized for her dedication to sustainable design and her strong advocacy for the academic sector. She expressed optimism that the Philippines will see an increase in certified Passive House projects in the years ahead. She emphasized the importance of engaging both faculty and students in sustainability-driven initiatives to strengthen education and research, thereby equipping the next generation of professionals with the skills required for resilient and energy-efficient building practices.

“Integrating sustainability into our classrooms and research ensures that the next generation is equipped to build a future of resilience and energy efficiency,” she explained. “By instilling these values early, we empower future architects and engineers to create solutions that address both today’s challenges and tomorrow’s uncertainties.”
The establishment of Passivhaus Philippines received backing from the Philippine Energy Efficiency Alliance, Green Architecture Advocacy Philippines (GreenAP), Philippine Green Building Council (PHILGBC), and the United Architects of the Philippines Makati Chapter (UAP Makati).
