CTE-BED holds In-service and Pre-service Readiness Training on Psychological First Aid for Educators

The College of Teacher Education, in an effort to address the concerns of psychological well-being among educators and students, conducted the first session of the In-service and Pre-service Readiness Training Program last January 19, 2024 at the International House. The training focused on topics related to psychological first aid for educators and was attended by in-service and pre-service teachers from both the College of Teacher Education and the Basic Education Department.

Mr. Sheward Cabrales, the chapter representative of the Philippine Red Cross, led the seminar as the resource speaker for the event.

The training session aimed to equip educators and future teachers with the knowledge to address mental health issues in the academic field. Cabrales discussed strategies for forming a supportive environment for both educators and learners. Moreover, he incorporated real-world examples to provide participants with a deeper understanding of their role in maintaining mental well-being in the university.

The training also included preventive measures in the event of emotional distress, further strengthening the educators’ capabilities to aid in such instances. CTE Acting Dean Prof. Juan Jobelle Acosta expressed the college’s commitment to prioritizing mental health among educators and learners. He also emphasized the importance of such training as crucial tools in preparing teachers to address the psychological complexities that could arise in any given academic setup.

The In-service and Pre-service Training program is expected to continue, offering other important topics relevant to the function of educators. The CTE and BED—that spearheaded this event—with their combined efforts, will continue to provide solutions to concerns affecting both learners and educators, creating a more suitable learning environment for all.
