Young Nicolas scion named new chairman of the board

dr richard nicolasA young blood has been in- fused in the board of directors of Northwestern University when Dr. Richard Nicolas took over as chairman of the board following his election after Retired Col. Wilfred Nicolas relinquished his position to the younger generation. Col. Nicolas was chosen chair- man emeritus. The younger Nicolas, son of the late NWU president Col. Ben Nicolas, who is a practicing physician/surgeon finished his Bachelor of Science in Zoology at the University of the Philippines-Diliman in 1986 and pursued his Doctor in Medicine degree at UP-College of Medicine where he graduated in 1991. After passing his medical board examination, he took his residency at the UP-PGH and went into several training programs and courses in general surgery, Medtronics freestyle valve implantation, Thoracic and Cardiovascular surgery, ATG suture less connector, and Laparoscopic surgery. He also took Clinical Skills Assessment in Philadelphia, USA in 2000 after which he pursued his Clinical Fellowship in Advanced Cardiac Surgery (Congenital Cardiac Surgery) Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Mayo Clinic in Rochester MN, USA. Nicolas also had training at the Royal Brompton Hospital in London where he took his Observational Fellowship in Heart Valve Bank. He is a fellow of the Philippine Association of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, Inc. He also passed several licensure examinations some of which are those administered by the Philippine Board of Surgery and Philippine Board of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery. He is currently a practicing doctor at the Asian Hospital and Medical Center in Alabang and has affiliations with the Chinese General Hospital and Medical Center Manila, St. Luke’s Medical Center and

Philippine Heart Center, both in Quezon City. The other officers of the board are: Ferdinand Nicolas, vice chairman; Wilfred NIicolas, chairman emeritus; Maria Liza Nicolas, executive vice-president; Oscar Santella, corporate secretary; Robert August Camarillo, assistant corporate secretary; Roy Nicolas, treasurer; Manuel Aurelio II, auditor. The members of the board include Natividad Caday, Erlinda Gloria, Mary Rachel Nicolas, and Lilia Paz.
