NWU Holds Job Fair on Campus
To help graduating students find suitable jobs, the NWU-PESO and Guidance Center Office in cooperation with the Office of the Students Affairs and Alumni Affairs conducted a Job Fair at the Student Center last February 19.
Guidance Center Director Rilan Grace Reyes said the primary goal of the job fair was to assist graduating students in finding a job.
NWU-PESO Acting Head Charito F. Marcos added that this activity is an employment strategy which brings both the employers and jobseekers to one venue for immediate matching. During the opening program, DOLE-INPLO Field Office Head Engr. Leonardo Catapia and Labor and Employment Officer Ms. Floria Garcia discussed about wage and its related benefits to the graduating students and other guests. A film entitled "Bagong Bayani" written and shot by the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration to address the rampant illegal recruitment issues was also viewed by the attendees.
Participating companies and agencies were Venvi Group of Companies, Rosewell Hotel, Honda Cars Ilocos, Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) Service Corp., Crystal Dew Bottling Corp., Greenwich Corp., Ajinomoto Philippine Corp., KMBI, San Miguel Logistics Asia Corp., Fort Ilocandia Resort Hotel, Northwestern University, Winrich Contact Solutions, Adessa Corp., Colorsteel System Corp., Java Hotel, Avon, Micromate Marketing Corp., Coca-Cola Bottlers Philippines Inc., Jollibee Foods Corp., Mart One, Ilow-Coast Travel and Tours, SITEL, Manels, McDonalds, TSPI Corp., Union Galvasteel Corp., Uniframe Aluminum Corp., Rangtay Sa Pagrang-ay Corp. and San Miguel Corporation.
Prior to the job fair, the Center for English Studies held a seminar-workshop for graduating students at the NWU New Media Hall last February 15-18. This was to equip and prepare the students with the necessary tools needed in searching for a job.
Topics discussed were Test Taking Skills by Prof. Marshall Felix L. Josue; Resume Writing and Application Letter Writing by Dr. Maricon M. Guillermo and Prof. Rilan Grace Reyes; Interview Process by Prof. Liza S. Nicolas and Ms. S. Pacheco; and ISO Familiarization by the Quality Assurance Team. A workshop-mock interview conducted by Prof. Josue was one of the highlights of the activity. Here, a student was selected to undergo a series of frequently asked questions, as one would when going for a job interview.
