NWU-CES hosts Regional Seminar-Workshop in English Language Education
Northwestern University has again proven that it is an institution of higher learning with a mission of promoting quality education. This was evident during the Regional Seminar-Workshop in English Language Education hosted by the Center for English Studies last November 21-22, 2009.

A total of 110 participants attended the two-day seminar at the New Media Hall. They came from different school districts namely: Division of Ilocos Norte, Division of Laoag City, Division of Ilocos Sur and Division of Vigan City. There were also participants from Region 2 and from Mariano Marcos State University.

Resource speakers were invited to discuss on different topics from its theme “Potpourri of Trends, Issues and Strategies in Teaching English for Filipino Learners.” Lecturers were: Dr. Jurlita U. Basuel, General Education Supervisor for English-Division of Ilocos Norte; Ms. Maria Teresita Peredo, Principal-Division of Ilocos Sur; Dr. Lamberto Batino Jr., Head, Department of Languages, San Beda College, Mendiola Manila; Dr. Veronica Guerrero from Ilocos Norte National High School; Ms. Gladys Domingo, Principal, Ablan Elementary School; Ms Charmagne Balantac of Mariano Marcos State University; and Prof. Marshall Felix Josue, Assistant Director of CES.

At the open forum, it was suggested by the participants that the event should be the start of yearly occasion since it greatly help educators in enriching their skills and knowledge throughout their entire career.

The said seminar was aimed to familiarize teachers with trends and issues in English language teaching and to equip teachers with strategies that will enable them to teach English effectively.
