Northwesternians Shine via the Sikat Songwriting Contest
We did it again. Northwesternians continues to shine in contests and events in both the local and national and international scenes. The latest, placing second in the nationwide songwriting contest organized by Sikat, an organization dedicated to combating the dangers of global warming through advancement of alternative power sources.

The song is entitled Sikat , and was composed by singer/songwriter and Marketing Officer of NWU, Spider Rodas. Mr. Rodas, together with, Acting DSA Karl Lenin Benigno, and NWU After 6, NWU's official employees band, arranged the song and recorded it as an entry to the contest.

"Parang hindi ko inexpect na mananalo kami," quips Rodas and Benigno. Rodas is currently the writer/composer of the Speechless speech choir pieces, as well as two graduation songs written for NWU while Benigno currently heads the NWU After 6 Band.

The theme of the contest centered on the ingenuity of the Filipino people, being creative and resourceful, and that it should be a source of hope for our kababayans around the country and the world. Music videos will be made from the winning songs to promote Sikat's cause.

The latest flagship project of Sikat is its Sikat Solar Powered Car, which will be showcased nationwide in selected universities and colleges. NWU has been chosen as the venue for Region 1. On February 23, the solar car exhibit will be open to the public.
