CEC holds training on Mushroom production
Mushroom production was chosen by the Mahogany 4-H club as their livelihood project. After the seminar on mushroom production held on June 14, 2009 at Northwestern University Eco-Tourism and Botanic Garden and after setting up a mushroom house within six months, the organization went through another training to reinforce their application for funding at the Department of Agriculture Region I.

This training was held at the Zamboanga Barangay Hall, Laoag City last January 9, 2010. As stated in the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) made between NWU and Mahogany 4-H Club, technical assistance will be the counterpart of NWU. UCRD Researcher Mona Liza Ganal was the speaker being the leader of the Mushroom Project of the University. She discussed culture media preparation, tissue culture and subculture, mother spawn preparation and making fruiting bags.

After the discussion and demonstration, a hands-on activity on the transfer of the tissue to the culturing media and the spawn to the fruiting bags was done by the participants.
