PDEA signs MOA with NWU, Lectures Students on Drug Awareness |
With the aim of informing the students on the ill effects of drug use, the Corporate Planning Office through the Marketing Department invited Assistant Secretary Rodolfo Caisip of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) to conduct a Drug Awareness Lecture last February 25 at the New Media Hall.
Prior to the program, PDEA and NWU signed a Memorandum of Agreement for the on-the-job training of students with courses related to the agency's function. The two organizations also agreed that they join hands in the mobilization of the anti-drug abuse prevention education and information dissemination program.

NWU-CES hosts Regional Seminar-Workshop in English Language Education |
Northwestern University has again proven that it is an institution of higher learning with a mission of promoting quality education. This was evident during the Regional Seminar-Workshop in English Language Education hosted by the Center for English Studies last November 21-22, 2009.
A total of 110 participants attended the two-day seminar at the New Media Hall. They came from different school districts namely: Division of Ilocos Norte, Division of Laoag City, Division of Ilocos Sur and Division of Vigan City. There were also participants from Region 2 and from Mariano Marcos State University.

Northwesternians Shine via the Sikat Songwriting Contest |

We did it again. Northwesternians continues to shine in contests and events in both the local and national and international scenes. The latest, placing second in the nationwide songwriting contest organized by Sikat, an organization dedicated to combating the dangers of global warming through advancement of alternative power sources.
The song is entitled Sikat , and was composed by singer/songwriter and Marketing Officer of NWU, Spider Rodas. Mr. Rodas, together with, Acting DSA Karl Lenin Benigno, and NWU After 6, NWU's official employees band, arranged the song and recorded it as an entry to the contest.
"Parang hindi ko inexpect na mananalo kami," quips Rodas and Benigno. Rodas is currently the writer/composer of the Speechless speech choir pieces, as well as two graduation songs written for NWU while Benigno currently heads the NWU After 6 Band.

NWU Owls Pep Squad garners 3rd Place in the Regional Qualifiers |
The NWU Owls more popularly known as the "Saguday Pep Squad" bagged 3rd place during the National Cheer leading Championship (Regional Qualifying Competition) held at the University of Cordillera (UC) in Baguio City last November 29, 2009.
The team consisting of 28 members, was accompanied by Mr. Karl Lenin Benigno, the Dean for Student Affairs, Ms. Elizabeth Palafox, Cultural Affairs Coordinator, Vermon Lamug, the musical director, Mr. Jed Morida, student assistant and Mr. Mark Anthony Agorilla, choreographer.

The Corporate Planning Office, spearheaded by the Marketing Division, hosted the yearly Lantern Parade last December 17, at the University Freedom Park. This was to commemorate the start of the holiday season with the spirit of oneness. With this year's theme, "Championing Adversity with Christmas Joy", the year-end event was actively participated by both the students and employees. 34 lanterns were submitted and showcased.
The activity began with the parade of lanterns at the freedom park with the NWU Marching Band playing Yuletide carols. Entertainment numbers were also rendered by The Saguday Chorale, High School Department’s re-enactment of the Nativity Presentation and the NWU After 5.

Northwestern University Passes ISO 9001:2008 Re-Certification Audit |
 Northwestern University once again achieved another milestone in its history as it was recommended for ISO 9001:2008 certification after passing the stringent audit by the Anglo Japanese American Registrars (AJA) auditors on November 12-13, 2009. "The quality management system of the University is now in adherence to ISO 9001:2008 standard. The audit team marked improvement of your system along the areas of faculty development, infrastructure, values formation and capability building," the team leader, Prof. Remedios C. Cagulada said during the exit conference with the members of the administration and the middle-level management of the University. |
