NWU Participates in Bloodletting
At least 33 successful students and employees of Northwestern University conquered their fear of needles when they participated in the blood drive held last July 9, 2010 at the Accreditation Center of the University.
The blood-letting activity, with the theme, Give blood and Save Life, commemorated the Blood Donor’s Month. The event was organized by the Philippine National Red Cross (Ilocos Norte - Laoag City Chapter) and Smart Telecom, Inc. in coordination with Northwestern University.
S. A. Pacheco, University Public Relations Officer, said that there was a sizeable number of volunteers however only 80 persons were accommodated for testing of the validity of their blood. Out of the 80 volunteers 33 were deemed qualified.
In a separate interview, a PNRC representative said that NWU was chosen as a venue because of its openness to community works, its social consciousness and its understanding of the individuals’ role in the upliftment of a person’s life and their community.
Due to the success of this program, the university with its partners aim to hold this event yearly.
