NWU SSC distributes food packs to frontliners and selected indigent families

The NWU Supreme Student Council distributed food packs to frontliners and some indigent families in Laoag City and San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte, last March 28, 2020. SSC Adviser Ildefonso Gonzales III, SSC President Romel S. Gerson and SSC Vice President Internal Meynard Castro went out of their way to hand the packed goods to their target beneficiaries: checkpoint personnel and indigent families. They did a checkpoint-to-checkpoint and a house-to-house relief operation.

The project was planned when the SSC Officers and their adviser had a virtual meeting on the 27th of March, as they discussed about the COVID-19 pandemic, and the council’s possible measures in helping during the crisis. The relief operations came as their immediate solution to ease the burden of those who are in the frontlines and other Ilocano families in need. They thought of it as a well-intentioned way to utilize the assorted goods they had accumulated from the sanctions of NWU students.

SSC President Romel S. Gerson immediately coordinated with and asked the approval of NWU President Atty. Ferdinand S. Nicolas for the preparation and packing of the goods to be distributed the next day.

The initiative was done out of the council’s desire to continue their goal—“Serve. Share. Care.”—even in the midst of the pandemic.
