NWU Best HEI in Region I for Disaster Risk Management

Northwestern University bagged the 1st Place award as the region’s best higher educational institution during the 21st Gawad KALASAG Regional awarding for excellence in disaster risk reduction and management and humanitarian assistance last October 25, 2019, at the Ariana Hotel, Bauang, La Union. The award is granted by the  Regional  Disaster  Risk  Reduction  and  Management  Council  of the  Office  of  the  Civil  Defense Regional Office 1.

The Gawad KALASAG is a yearly competition for the best disaster risk reduction management program. It is organized and facilitated by the Office of the Civil Defense in collaboration with the Department of Education, Commission on Higher Education, Department of Health, Department of Science and Technology, Department of Interior and Local Government, and the Department of Public Works and Highways. The competition encourages the participation of both the public and the private sectors.

Indicators for the best higher education institution includes policies and plans, capability or capacity, programs and activities, resources and structural resilience, demonstrated capability, risk assessment and vulnerability, emergency preparedness and response, and partners or agreement with stakeholders.
